Most popular patient questions
Any patient with severe erectile dysfunction who has not responded to other ED treatment options is a suitable candidate for a penile implant.
Yes, the only difference is that you will be able to achieve a strong erection at any time you wish. Many patients report that their erection strength after implant placement is the most powerful they have ever had.
Yes, the surgery is performed under general anesthesia. You fall asleep just before the operation and wake up immediately after the operation, so you will be under anesthesia for no more than 2 hours.
Dr. Menshchikov specializes exclusively in male urogenital surgery.
He is guaranteed to follow strict modern surgical protocols. Dr. Menshchikov performs more than 250 different surgeries per year. He has already performed over 1000 phalloprosthetic surgeries.
Yes, you may experience pain and discomfort for the first 5 to 7 days. You can take painkillers.
Modern implant models are designed to be worn throughout the patient’s life. If there is no mechanical damage to the implant, it will not need to be replaced. Coloplast offers a lifetime warranty on its implants.
A penile implant does not increase the length of the penis. It creates a maximally rigid erection with maximum girth in diameter.
No. Impotence, not implantation, causes the penis to shrink.
If a man has erectile dysfunction, in which there is a complete absence of erection – you lose 0.5 to 5 centimeters every 14 months. The length is reduced due to atrophy of the penile tissues (cavernous bodies, white sheath).
Normally a man has up to 10 erections per day, these erections work like workouts that keep the penile tissues toned, ensuring that the tissues are saturated with blood.
Therefore, the more time has passed since the onset of impotence, the smaller your penis becomes. Hence – the earlier the implant is placed, the better chance you have of maintaining your size. Men who put off surgery for years are unpleasantly surprised by the result and wish they had done it sooner.
Patients with Peyronie’s disease may also notice a decrease in penis size. Peyronie’s disease is a progressive disease that leads to deformation and reduction of penis size. Therefore, the same rule applies – the later the surgery is performed, the smaller the penis size.
At what point in your life did you have a length of 14-15cm? If you have not had an erection for more than a year you may have already lost size. Every month without an erection will result in a decrease in length.
Prosthesis implantation fully preserves the penis size current at the time of surgery.
To maintain size, it is important to have a regular sex life already with the prosthesis. Those who have regular sexual intercourse with the prosthesis do not lose size, while those who use it once a month experience a decrease in penis size.
The operation does not affect the nerve endings. Therefore, there is no difference in sensations during sex. And orgasm is accompanied by normal ejaculation. The only difference is that you will be able to have sex without time restrictions.
Penile implants are prescribed when pills or injections no longer work to produce an erection. After implant placement, some patients talk about the sensation as during a natural erection. They feel that the penis becomes hard. But the implant still needs to be activated to initiate intercourse. This is more about the ability of the prosthesis to maintain natural sensations.
No. If you don’t want anyone to know about the implant, just don’t talk about it.
It takes 30 to 60 seconds to activate the implant. The scar on the scrotum is cosmetic and virtually invisible, except that it is similar to a varicocele scar.
Since no nerves or parts of the genitourinary system are removed or affected, natural ejaculation is preserved. If a man had problems with ejaculation BEFORE the prosthesis was implanted, the prosthesis will not solve this problem. It is worth discussing this issue with your doctor.
There are no restrictions. You can have sex in any position you want, whenever you want, and as much as you want. That’s the point of the implant. On the contrary – there is a permanent hard erection, which can be triggered at will. You can change positions, interrupt sexual intercourse: the erection remains.
After prostatectomy, you lose 0.5 to 5 centimeters in size every 14 months.
Only a penile implant can prevent or stop tissue atrophy in the penis. It is very important to actively use the implant, especially in the first year after surgery. Activate the implant at least twice a day, then squeeze the penis in your hands, moving it left and right. This way you can regain the lost centimeters and even increase the size of the penis. Some patients have to undergo reimplantation to get a larger implant.
At every operation, a representative of the manufacturer is present with all possible sizes of prostheses. Therefore, it does not matter what your penis length is. However, it is noticed that men with small penises often experience more intense pain in the first month after implantation. This is probably due to individual characteristics and the ability of the tissues to stretch. It is important to do exercises 2 times a day, activate the prosthesis, squeeze the penis, move it from side to side. This way you can get rid of painful sensations. With active use and exercises, the penis will eventually enlarge.
After implant placement, you need time to recover.
For the first 2 days, it is important to rest and lie down more. Yes, you can drive, you can walk up and down the stairs or down the street. But it will be better if you allow yourself 2 days of bed rest. And for the first 2 weeks, you will probably get tired faster, feel weak. That’s normal. Just rest when you are tired. In the second week, it is recommended that you do one pump push and then deactivate the implant.
In the third week, the first activations of the implant begin. This will be painful the first few times. It is important to do 5 – 8 presses of the pump once a day and then release the implant.
We remind you that resumption of sexual life is possible only 4 -6 weeks after surgery.
